In a January 31st post on their website, Los Angeles based hip-hop collective Odd Future (Wolf Gang Kill Them All) announced they would be performing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, adding that it was "time to scare white America." The young group has been steadily rising ranks in the L.A. underground hip-hop scene for the past few years and gaining praise from artists like Mos Def and Das Racist, but their February 16th performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon may be the push they needed to really swag up in the eyes of, um, the white america they want to scare. Group members Tyler The Creator and Hodgy Beats are backed by The Roots, and it's hard to see Mos Def's cameo at the clip's close as anything other than a screaming endorsement. Despite spurring the designation, the collective's music and general style (upside down crosses, freaky chick who walks out of your TV in The Ring) has been referred to as "horror-core," something I can't bring myself to take seriously. Check out this clip and give their mix tape a listen. If you like what you hear, you can check them out at Coachella. They'll be performing at the epic festival later this year.
