Julian Lynch

Julian Lynch
Terra
[Underwater Peoples; 2011]

Listening to Julian Lynch's music one can't help but feel as if he's part of a small audience watching the guy record this stuff in his bedroom. The intimate, often hushed atmosphere and gentle flourishes offer a quiet respite from grandiose indie-rock, noise-pop, and garage rock. For those familiar with Japan's prolific bedroom-pop sensation, Shugo Tokumaru, you will find much to like in Terra, Lynch's third full length album. Lynch is currently doing a joint PhD program at the University of Wisconsin at Madison in ethnomusicology and anthropology (TinyMixTapes). When listening to his album, I imagine him surrounded by various instruments, both found and proper, crafting away with a tranquility that comes through in his recordings. Lynch's previous album, Mare, is also worth checking out. Listen to most of the tracks below and see what you think. This could be the soundtrack to an introverted indie-flick or a BBC nature program. Perfect for a rainy day or a relaxing evening:
