Listen: Turn Off Your Television, "I Just Cleaned The Floor"

Swedish trio Turn Off Your Television is offering their eponymous 2011 debut as a free download over at their bandcamp site. The three-piece describes their music as being influenced by tunes tunes from the 60s, 70s, and 90s (apparently skipping over those crazy 80s), and reflecting the work of bands like Sparklehorse and Belle & Sebastian. Single "I Just Cleaned My Floor" is indicative of the the album's tintinnablultastic twee pop and the type of unabashedly bubblegum songwriting that rockers find melting in their back pockets after shows. Let's be honest, lines like, "Houses like a desert waiting, waiting for the rain / All the all the walls around us are falling to pieces / And I just cleaned the floor / And I feel better than before / Na na-na-na-na na na na-na na na," aren't revelatory, but they are simple acknowledgements of the comfort afforded us by the domestic control we exert amidst the chaos of a world "falling to pieces" around us. And sometimes that's all the comfort I need. Enjoy.
