Smith Westerns

I first heard "Weekend" off Dye It Blonde on an episode of NPR's All Songs Considered. It was introduced as "the most exciting song of 2011" (cart-before-the-horse hyperbole), but the track was super catchy and I was intrigued. Smith Westerns are an indie-rock band from Chicago comprised of four dudes between the ages of 18 and 20. According to Wiki, their influences are 60's garage/psych rock, Bowie, T. Rex/Marc Bolan. While I did enjoy their self-debut, I found it a bit too fuzzed out. Dye It Blonde, their second release, is much more polished and, in my opinion, catchy. Check out the video for the single, "Weekend," as well as the excellent, "Imagine, Pt. 3." "All Die Young" is another excellent track. This is a great album to kick off 2011, and a fun pop-remedy for the cold and snow. Enjoy!
